I live in the cowboy capital, which means i'm inundated with cowboy life. absolutely smothered. every grocery store and small shop plays country music, we have an annual rodeo and rodeo parade, our police officers wear cowboy boots & hats, we have multiple saddleries and we have a cowboy museum.
i love it.
but i'm not a cowgirl. my husband--i love you dear--is sadly not a cowboy, either. we just happen to live in and love the cowboy capital.
i never thought i'd write cowboys.
but i wrote a cowboy in all my love, because hudson was a dairy farmer. i also wrote a lot of cowboys in the conway collateral duet, under my pen name ember hughes. still, those still felt like distant cousins of cowboy.
but as i write please, sir, i'm writing the mmc, jake, as a saddler and owner of the saddlery. over the weekend, i visited our saddlery. I saw jake creating the saddles, and envision him there, and this being bluebell.
it really kinda hit. i'm writing a cowboy romance and this one feels a lot more real to me.
i also think part of that is due to the hero's daughter. she's a teenager--fourteen--and really going through those awful hormonal ups & downs. I remember how that felt, how it felt to be around fourteen year old girls, how it felt to feel alone--all of those things. and that makes the book more real, too.
i wasn't jo jo but i can relate to jo jo so much. (Jo jo is jake's daughter, jake is the hero!)
anyway, i'm about 16k into it and it's releasing the first week of april. i'm looking forward to this series. I think it's gonna be a good time. nothing too heavy, just spicy & kinky.
Do you like cowboy romance? on a scale of 'he's wearing a cowboy hat' to 'he's the barrel racin' champion 'round these parts', how much cowboy stuff actually needs to be in a cowboy romance for you?
